At a time when everybody is looking for jobs you are the only one in the position to create jobs. Creating employment is one of the most important services anybody can do for an economy, especially an economy severely hit by recession. And when you create the job, you get to decide who to hire for that job. That automatically puts you in a position of power, one where you can pick and choose from the available human resource pool and acquire the best. You can build a powerful employee work force as you can hire people with previous work experience, excellent qualifications and education etc.You are in the position to affect change and make a difference. The recession thus, while may not be so good in terms of how you fare in the market, what kind of sales you have managed, it turns out to be a blessing in disguise in the sense that you get the time and opportunity to strengthen and consolidate your business empire from within. It’s a good time for introspection and to seek out your weak points and take the necessary actions to fix them. This way you strengthen your foundation, you make it easier for expansion in the future when the time is right. The recession thus forces you to slow down and take stock of your business, something that you may have been postponing for a long time. It is always important to step back and take a look at how you are functioning as certain glaring problems become obvious only then, problems that grow into disasters if not taken care of at the right time. A lot of businesses take time out for such introspection often; anyway. The advantage of doing this during recession is that you don’t really lose out on much business. It’s a win-win situation all around. I personally feel that this is the best time to build your human resource base. It may seem a bit expensive to be hiring at such a time, but in the long run, it’s a valuable investment. You might never manage to acquire such fabulous employees at any other time. And I’ve always firmly believed that employees are any businesses biggest strength and the most valuable resource. It is always a good idea to invest in them. Take this opportunity and build yourself a strong business.
