stubborn Why Persistence Is the Essence of SuccessI started to see trends now. All the time I have been on my own and then managing businesses, staff, equipment and clients from all over the world, there is an overwhelming sense of clarity that seems to have dawned on me. I started to see patterns emerge out of almost everything. Except for some vague things in life, most of everything else makes sense to me.

For instance, think of a business. One of the most fundamental things a business owner or a business as such needs to get started is a rigid focus on marketing and to make sure that sales happen. How many businesses actually focus on that?

I have a friend who is an Internet consultant – he does a lot of strategic planning, marketing consulting, web content development, etc. He has a one-person business and that means that he is solely responsible for himself. There have been times when he had these productivity blues but it’s remarkable as to how he changed over the years. I asked him what was one thing that kept him going all these years?

Without batting an eyelid, he said “I persisted”.

That got me thinking. I am guilty of “not having” persisted enough for a long time now and I only shudder when think about all the opportunities lost, business lost, clients lost just because I didn’t persist enough. I just gave up too soon. The sheer power of persistence is lost out on us as we keep growing. We don’t tend to persist the way little Johnny does when he wants his remote controlled toy car.

Tell me, what does it take for you to be that little Johnny? Can you persist badly enough?
