What Doesn’t Work On Twitter

twitter 300x110 What Doesn’t Work On TwitterAs I go about tweeting everyday, my twitter stream is unending, flowing like a raging river 24/7. However, half of whatever content (tweets) floats there is nonsense. I can’t even bear to read those 140 characters leave alone replying or re-tweeting. Here are some things that put me away and make me run for cover on twitter:

  • Don’t sell: This has probably been discussed before, but selling something outright on twitter is the worst thing you could do to yourself. Just like you contribute something of value on forums and networking sites, you should do thr same with twitter. Share what you read, pass some information that you know, solve someone’s problems and much more. Do put in links, but not your affiliate links.
  • Don’t swear: Another big turn off is all those swear words people tend to use on twitter. I am not against using such language, but the trouble with twitter is that your followers might not know you well enough to accept it. A blog is different – a community is formed over time and those who like stay back; but twitter is too fluid for that.
  • Don’t intimidate: You could be an expert on something – say like business, finance, investing, technology, etc. – but please don’t around beating your own trumpet. Don’t intimidate your followers by being tough on them or by being too busy to respond to their questions.

Twitter could be a gold mine if used right. Have you figured out any other things that turn you off on twitter?
