Up Your Emotional Quotient To Up Your Business
According to wikipedia Emotional Quotient describes the ability, capacity, skill or, in the case of the trait EI model, a self-perceived ability, to identify, assess, and manage the emotions of one’s self, of others, and of groups. You can see clearly how important it’s role is at your workplace.Awareness, optimism, empathy etc. are among the first few qualities that most people learn while growing up.However, to develop a well rounded EQ you need to acquire a few traits that can only be gained through your own personal experience. Qualities like tact, perception etc.
As the entrepreneur you need to make efforts towards the employees at your workplace to help them improve productivity. It will also help towards improving client relations and personnel management.
1)Pick your target group: Select a mixed, random group and schedule definite meetings and stick to them. Twice or thrice a week is a good schedule to start with. Try spreading the word by word of mouth rather than a written circular as this helps people to ease into it as it removes the ‘officialness’ of the task.
2)The book: Arm with yourself with a book that focuses on the core interpersonal relations that are specific to your business. Do a small research of all the books in this segment and then based on careful analysis select the book best suited for you.
3)Interpersonal skills: Utilise the book and build an environment that thrives on doing tasks together. Make them quick tasks and assign small groups to each task. Keep mixing the group. Point out and encourage any teamwork skills shown. This acts as a booster.
Once you get to know your group, you will discover new ways of developing interpersonal skills between them. However they will all be offshoots of the above mentioned ones. Find out what works for you and your business and utilise to make the environment at the workplace a nicer place.
