Is Safari the best browser ever? Are you happy with your browsing experience with your current browser or do you spend a sufficient amount of time each month installing updates to make your browser safe. But is it not the duty of the manufacturers to beta test their browser thoroughly prior to releasing it in the market? Unfortunately, with the browser wars heating up, most developers try to release the latest version of their browsing software without checking the same adequately. The result is that the browsing experience of the end user suffers.
Apple’s Safari 4
While a certain URL posed no problems in the older version of your browser, the current version crashes when trying to open that site. If you too are one of them who are tired of their browsing experience and are looking forward to a stable browser, it is high time that you checked out the latest offering from the stables of Apple. True to their reputation of making the end users experience different, Apple has worked hard under the roof of their browser to provide you with an unique browsing experience.
Safari 4 features
There are a number of flashy features in this version of Safari 4 browser and they include…
- • Top Sites View
- • Thoroughly Redesigned Windows UI
- • Support for the latest emerging web standards
- • Cover Flow Panel
- • Thumbnail Preview
- • Smart Address Field
Safari 4 Speed
Putting it across the paces proved that Safari does run much faster than the latest IE and is also faster than the current version of Firefox. One will find faster performance of media rich sites and one will also observe improvement on resource management. Like the previous version, the latest version of Safari runs on Windows and Mac OS X. While the page rendering engine is quite good, lack of official support for plug-ins is a major drawback.
Memory Management
Memory management has been improved dramatically and users will find hardly any CPU usages if a number of static pages are left open. In fact the RAM cache diminishes when one closes tabs. While there is no doubt that there are a number of subtle differences from the previous versions, it still has a bit of catching up to do with other leading browsers in the Windows platform. And no, we are not talking about IE which is perpetually diminishing into the background.
Conclusion
Apple would let you to believe that their offering is the best in the market but the final judgement comes from the end users. If one takes this data into considerations, Safari has still got a lot of catching up to do as far as the Windows platform is concerned. Sure, features like `top sites’ permits you to glance your favorite websites without as much as lifting your finger but that is not enough. The star in the upper right corner which reminds you when your favorite pages have changed is just a cosmetic addition. Support for plug-ins would be a welcome treat.
Have you experienced something better while using the Safari 4 browser?
