One of the most common problems most business owners suffer from is the fact that they start working “in” their business instead of working “on” their business. They can’t leave that seat, everyone would need this person to be present and almost everything is improvised.
It wouldn’t seem like business anymore; it would seem like a fancy job with a fancy title that you got for yourself. The only way to get out of this conundrum is to develop systems while you document each of these systems. It is all about the ability to duplicate efforts leading to profits.
Every aspect of running business – from lead development and sales to accounting and payroll – must have a process. Fine-tine and document the leanest, most inexpensive, quickest and most effective way of doing that process. If you were to sell this business tomorrow, the system would come with the package for the new business owner. Once the business is sold, the new owner only has to push buttons ( if sold that is; but you don’t need to sell)
This is what makes your business valuable. This is kind of business set-up is called a ‘Franchise prototype” as Michael.E.Gerber would like to call it in his book “E-Myth Revisited”.
Business systems aren’t just for franchises; it is for any business that looks to automate, systematize and fine-tune its operations. Systems are for entrepreneurs who wish to realize their financial dreams and be able to disentangle themselves from the clutch of their own businesses and still be able to run it profitably.
Do you have systems in place for your business? Do you think it is easy or difficult to implement and run these systems? What do you think?
