Perseverance - Single biggest trait an entrepreneur needs to have!

You have no idea how importance it is. If you do, you will certainly empathize. Starting and running your own business successfully needs loads and loads of perseverance. To start off with, you have absolutely no one who would understand the way you are thinking and justifying your move to start your own business and probably everyone you know would be doing their best to pull you back into their measly 9 to 5 mediocrity you hate so much. Your family, friends and everyone else who has got an opinion would give you their two bits of opinion. If you aren’t feeling sick already and did stand up to this test, you have more of it.

You start out, against all odds and then you would find clients who are worse than your bosses. They call you names, they suggest that you do not have “experience”, they state that they don’t think youngsters like you can do anything anyway and myriad other things. You take all that. But they won’t sign up and they don’t buy. You then have problems hiring, retaining and firing people. You will have cash-flow problems. You will have product/service design problems. You will have customer service issues and I hope you don’t get into any litigation.

So what is that one thing that will keep sane through all of that? yes, its called perseverance. The sheer determination and will power you ought to amass just to show up the next day, against all odds. The grit to be able to face your irate clients, bankers, vendors and employees. The willingness to push on in the face of adversity.

Stay put when it all hits you on your face. You shall reign my friend!

You are right, absolutely right. I have already started fdacing problems a lot exactly as stated in the first paragraph. No one in family seems to be understanding me and my plans for life. ALl they want is study - get grades - get a job - marry - have sex and die

This is the typical middle class mentality of old generation in India. Having said this we should try and change this narrow view - where instead of ones free will (of course business wise), “financial security” is given first preference.
If you work as a government employee then its “extra sugar” in the tea cup. Fortunately I havent had to face this problem as my dad himself runs his own business and so had allowed me to do anything I liked. And I am so glad he did :)

Thats true, but some guys are always lucky whose family always with them. They don’t face such a big problem… but initially no one first believe in you until then you don’t have more confidence + any positive result.

you just remind me Robert T. Kiyosaki bestseller books “richdadpoordad” “cashflow Quadrant tips”, where he had showing thats same one problems.. and solution also.. :) how to get it out!

Yes, determination is a must thing to become a successful entrepreneur. Always stay focussed for the battle!

A person who is just taking over a family business misses out on all the fun that comes with starting out something on your own , from the scratch - The ideas, the brainstorming, days and days of thinking, those sleepless nights, all that hard work, those initial client talks and following rejections, the need to do everything on your own. It’ sheer learning. The so called lucky people miss all this and they just do a JOB their fathers have given them.
