trashtwitter 300x110 Is Twitter is Nothing But Trash? I had always known that this sort of study would come to the fore; that someone out there would stand to reason that any sort of time spent on social media, Twitter Included, is a huge waste of time.
The researcher, Pear Analytics, made an arresting conclusion that about 41% of the content on Twitter is purely “babble” and holds no value whatsoever. The stab is on the collective belief that Social media is the next best thing after the wheel and that Twitter contributes to huge business success.

The pointless babble on Twitter apparently points to the answers for the question “What are you doing” and this is filled up with all sorts of answers which barely makes any sense to others or holds any value whatsoever. If it isn’t this, then there are conversations making up for a whopping 37.6% with the @username thrown in for good measure. RT( r-tweets) where one user passes another twitter user’s tweet ( which is the only valuable thing on twitter, decidedly) makes up just for 8.7% — which is a very disappointing number, considering the enormous power a single re-tweet can have.

So now, what do you want to do with Twitter?

I, for one, would continue to do what I do. I wouldn’t spam on Twitter or do any sort of rampant self-promotion. I would still count on that 8.7% of Re-tweeting potential on Twitter.

If 37% of the content on Twitter also makes up for conversations, I would see no harm in holding meaningful conversations with strangers and help them out in areas of my expertise – as such, this is what social media is supposed to allow me to do.

We cannot ignore twitter since it is too big for that now. According to Internet.com, “In April, comScore estimated that Twitter has over 32 million users worldwide, a 1,905 percent increase over the previous year.”

So, the question now  is, what do you want to do with it?
