Collboration SoftwareThe presence of many online or web-based tools for collaboration and remote workers management like Basecamp, 5 PM and Active Collab has made business management much more easier, accountable and effective. But then, these tools are now being used to manage ” remote workers”, “telecommuters” and “freelancers”. I think they are just as fit and effective to be deployed as people and project management tools. Here are reasons why I think they fit remarkably well with your business.

1. Time Tracking:
Most of the collaboration tools we are talking about have splendid time tracking abilities which are even better than the kind of time tracking we might do for our offline businesses. When each worker or employee is managed by using any one of the above mentioned tools, they will be more attuned to the fact that their time is being tracked and every lost hour is micro-managed. Time tracking helps ascertain otherwise unaccountable losses, improves productivity and brings a sense of responsibility on the part of the workers. On the other hand, managing effectively and proper use of time is possible because of  “On top of everyone’s time usage” features provided by a single dash-board view off these time-tracking facilities.
2. Easy work scheduling, work assigning and management: Time is lost with papers being shuffled, faxes, telephone calls and meetings – one of the biggest time wasters in the corporate scenario. Why do all of that when you can automatically assign a piece of work, gigs and projects to respective employees right through the collaboration software? Not only that, you will also be able to keep track of the project’s progress, communicate with your vendors/employees instantly and manage everything using just a web-based tool.
3. Accountability: No one can stand the fact that their “things-to-do” list remains incomplete and that it shows-up in an ugly, despicable, guilt-inducing deep red color. A sense of accountability automatically creeps in while projects are being worked upon. With a systematized approach to project deployment and delivery, employees and managers are constantly involved in trying to meet dead-lines, solve service based issues and getting things done.
4. Paperless: It’s time to go green and there has never been a better time to do it. When you use software like Active Collab, 5 PM and Basecamp, you are literally doing everything online and that would mean putting a profitable stop to printing (and hence paper, ink toners, cartridges, electricity costs, and much more).
5. Speed: Needless to say, working on the web is fast. No time is wasted on waiting  for the printer to spew out loads of papers for  filing, calling the respective employees and delegating work to them, wasting time on non-productive meetings, etc. Everything is accounted to the last minute and the business processes are invariably more effective.

The magic  of collboration software is yet to rub off on businesses. Don’t you think it is time you took action and do something about it?
