I am a complete devotee of personal productivity and I can’t imagine where my life would have been if it weren’t for the efficiency, time-saving and incredible boost productivity gives to my confidence and of course, business.
When a business is in its start-up phase, you are essentially short on time and high on ambition. You got to get a lot done in almost no time and you virtually riding a pregnant horse then. However, you can let excuses cover you and hence you must focus on getting more done within stipulated time when to compared to anyone else.
You got to usher in the collective forces of prioritizing, focusing and discrimination( covering in another post) to be able to make that happen. One of the first things you got to do is to be ruthless and prioritize everything. For instance, if a client calls in exactly at lunch to discuss a business deal, lunch doesn’t enjoy priority. If you insist on lunch, you may well imagine what the outcome is going to be.
In businesses, you must be able to prioritize not only your own daily tasks, but also those pertaining to your business in general. Going by the general rule, marketing takes the first priority followed by finance(cash flow) and such like. For a start-up, as an example, infrastructure and office space takes least priority(unless it’s a retail set-up).
To be able to prioritize well, you must have specific goals and know exactly what you want at all times. Aided with metrics and measurements systems updated constantly, you will know where you are where you want to go. Do you prioritize your daily schedules? Does your business have prioritized management in place?
