1) Leadership: You have to know how to lead. You need to be able to point out the right direction to your employees and deal with problems and obstacles in a mature way.

2) Communication: Start building a good rapport with your employees and customers. Be honest and true and try to build real relationships with them instead of achieving a formal politeness.

3) Open Mindedness: It is important for you to learn to be opening minded. Learn to accept criticism and advice graciously. You might learn something new.

4) Personalization: Make an effort to remember your employees names, birthday’s etc.This simple gesture will make your employees feel needed and important, spurring they work harder.

5) Understanding : Learn to be understanding with your employees. Hear what they have to say. Listen to their problems and try to help them. At the same time, be firm. You cannot let them get away silly excuses for poor performance.You have develop a knack for spotting the genuine problems from the fake ones and deal with them.

Start by trying to inculcate these into your behavior at he workplace. With time, you’ll get an instinctive understanding of how to be a good boss. The relation between being a good boss and productivity is directly proportional. The nicer you are as a boss the higher is your productivity rate.
