Conventional MarketingOne of the reasons why some entrepreneurs can’t make it is due to their narrow vision; a short-sighted approach to advertising, promotion and marketing. They still want to market using pamphlet distribution, newspapers and magazines ( subscription rates for both are plummeting), making expensive brochures or direct mail pieces and mail them to purchased lists( get a life, pal) or using telemarketing ( this is hardcore Interruption marketing – people hate this).

Do you see a recurring trend here? Have you realized that the methods of marketing that are being used are almost obsolete? Why are we wasting time and money where you and I know it isn’t going to work? What works now?

Have you heard of the terms Inbound marketing, permission marketing and attraction marketing? There is a marked difference in how some great companies approach their marketing strategy compared to many small businesses – most successful companies use what is called as permission marketing which is disseminating information to targeted customers who “opted-in” to receive such information. No calling, accosting or sending emails without the consent of the consumers themselves.

Information marketing works like a charm. I call it information marketing because we would primarily stop promoting our products directly. Instead, we would keep providing information using “Inbound marketing methods” above and soft sell our products for the customer to buy when ready.

There is a sea change in each of these marketing strategies being used and it is best if you stop what you are doing and take on the new age marketing methods. Have you used any of these above-mentioned methods? Do you see any difference
