Facebook for Business? You Got To Be Kidding Me!

facebook logo 300x112 Facebook for Business? You Got To Be Kidding Me!Let’s admit it right away: facebook was never intended for anything remotely close to business. All it has is multiple applications to take ego-boosting tests that possible tell you which celebrity you resemble the most( if that makes you happy); you could poke, gift, message, chat and do everything else. But where the hell is business? Here are reasons why I think facebook could never be a Linked In or a Twitter:

  1. It’s all about friends; no place for business: If the people you meet out there and the relationships you maintain are all personal, where does the question of doing business, or even promoting it come into picture? Isn’t it true that friends must kept away from your business at all costs? Why put up a business profile on a website that has hundreds of my friends out there?
  2. It’s got to do with niches too: Not all businesses will find success with facebook — assuming you took the shameless step of promoting and pitching your business to friends and acquaintances on facebook. If you were in the B2B business, for instance, you have virtually no buyers on facebook.
  3. Interacting is fine, monitoring won’t be so: Michael Rubin, at mpdailyfix.com ( Marketingprof’s Blogs), suggests that it isn’t enough to interact and create dialogue in social media, but responding to any comments made or questions asked is just as important — web-wide. Now, I could let a full-time employee manage and respond to comments or questions about a company brand, but why would I want anyone to get into my personal account at facebook and respond? Isn’t that purely an open invitation to witness a part of my life secrets?

I don’t facebook was made for business nor can it ever don that role. It was, it is, and it will always remain a teenagers favorite and a community for friends. Do you think facebook can work for your business?
