Because of unhealthy eating and strenuous lifestyle, people are getting more and more vulnerable to get heart diseases. In many other heart diseases, mitral valve prolapse is the most common problem pertaining to heart valve.
To understand about mitral valve prolapse, it is obligatory to know more about the mitral. A normal mitral valve comes with two thin leaflets. These leaflets can be found between the left atrium and the left ventricle of the heart. Mitral valve leaflets are to stop the backflow of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium. However, these leaflets get opened when ventricles relax and that’s when the left ventricle gets filled with oxygenated blood which comes from lungs. Here, it is also essential to mention that mitral valve leaflets are connected to the inner wall of the left ventricle with a series of strings which is known as “chordae”. When a person suffers with mitral valve prolapse, he actually faces a defect in chordae and leaflets caused by protein collagen. Because of the defect, mitral valve leaflets don’t become able to prevent the backflow of blood which can lead to heart failure.
The worst thing about mitral valve prolapse is that most people don’t become able
to find out that they are having this abnormality. However, there are some symptoms that can be observed in some people having this abnormality. Fatigue, chest pain and increased or abnormal heart rhythms are few of the symptoms associated with mitral valve prolapse. However, there are lots of people who also witness migraine headaches along with severe attacks of anxiety. If you think that you are having a combination of some of the abovementioned symptoms, then you must consult with your doctor to checkout if these are the symptoms of mitral valve prolapse.
A doctor can get an idea about mitral valve prolapse by using a stethoscope as a clicking sound is taken as an indicator for the strength of valve leaflets. However, you may have to go through some other procedures as well which may also include going for an ultrasound imaging examination.
After all these things, if you get diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, you must do everything that your doctor may ask you to do. However, it is encouraging to mention that most people don’t require an intensive treatment. But, if you are having a severe prolapse with more intensive symptoms, then you will have to go with certain medications along with a regular examination. Furthermore, you may require going through a surgery with mitral valve replacement. However, that happens only in rare cases. But, it is essential to stay in touch with your doctor and go for regular check ups to avoid any complications.
All in all, it is enough to mention that mitral valve prolapse can get serious if you will not pay a sufficient attention to it. However, you will always have to stay strong to deal with mitral valve prolapse as it can really be tough on your nerves. Also, you will have to take some special steps to deal with the anxiety caused by mitral valve prolapse. So, always stay focused and try to enjoy your lift with you friends and family as it will help you to manage things effectively.
