Awesome Aussies are back with a bang. They are back after a few dismal performances prior to the world cup. Now the Australian team is back at its menacing best and is expected to become the first team to win three consecutive World Cup Titles in a row.
The Australian Cricket team is showing exemplary cohesion and exceptional cricketing abilities in decimating opposition after opposition in the world. They started their ICC Cricket World Cup campaign in style with a thumping 203 run victory against Scotland. They continued to prove their dominance by thrashing The Netherlands by a margin of 229 runs. Then they defeated title contenders South Africa convincingly by 83 runs. The sublime form of the Aussies continued even in the Super 8 where they defeated The West Indians by 103 runs and minnows Bangladesh by 10 wickets.
From the matches so far in the tournament, we can see that Australia seems to be the favorite to win the World Cup this time as well. South Africans too are playing well. But they too were defeated by the Awesome Aussies. The Australian batsmen are in terrific form in this World Cup. Bowlers have not been tested very much till now. But they too have shown signs of peaking at the right time. The team is playing as a unit and looks all set to play the final at Barbados on April, 28, 2007. Mathew Hayden is in ominous form and is on course to winning the best batsman title of the tournament. Mcgrath became the highest wicket taker in the World Cup overtaking the great Wasim Akram. At the moment, it seems that no team has the capability to stop this Aussie juggernaut. But, as they say, “Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties.” So, we can only keep our finger crossed and observe the proceedings as the tournament progresses further.
