twitter1 300x231 5 Stupid Things You Might Be Doing On Twitter.

Twitter is now a rage and all that and it won’t mean a thing to you if you treat it just like an open-to-public, random messaging platform – you got to take it seriously. I haven’t seen that happening much, going by what I had seen on my twitter updates (presumably my followers and those I follow). Here’s what I see is ruining their ability to do anything worthwhile by using twitter – stupid things people do out there:

  1. Talk about mundane, everyday stuff: “I am watching movies, listening to music and drinking coffee”. Say, how does that benefit anyone? Why do you have to waste your time telling the world what you do the moment you wake up? I am not interested in knowing what you had for your breakfast nor do I give two hoots about what you think about that extra sugar in your coffee which ruined your morning. Give me a break and put in something there that I could click on and use for my benefit.
  2. Not helping others: Good thing about twitter is that there are a lot of people suddenly asking random questions about a gnawing need that perplexes them or something that needs fixing. Chances are that you know about it all, but then, why aren’t you spreading your knowledge around? Why talk about movies and music when you could be solving people’s problems and automatically making yourself indispensable in your community (all those followers you have IS a community that you helped create). Make a difference, solve someone’s problem today.
  3. Teespamming: I sometimes see some random spam messages — no value given, just keep spamming nonsensical trivia about stupid things on earth( that will include hard-selling your products and services, too). I hate spam in all its forms and tweeting about anything not related to your line of business, spamming with your affiliate links and even talking about one thing forever is spamming big-time. Please stay away from this, it doesn’t reflect the knowledgeable, smart and productive individual that you are.
  4. Not conditioning others to read what you are reading: You, as an entrepreneur, are supposed to be reading every single day and keep on top of your industry. You are supposed to be the know-all, expert and the go-to person in your line of business. One remarkably easy way of doing that is to post what you read on twitter such that others will follow. By not doing this, you are losing an opportunity to show your community how you manage to keep yourself abreast of things happening around you.
  5. Using profanity: I know how difficult it is to “Be yourself” while you are out there tweeting in public. I, personally, am a person who is short-tempered and I do use  profanity excessively. However, I refrain from showing this part of my personality out there on twitter because that’s business. I don’t want to be like that with my clients and customers, why then would I want to use it in the digital form talking to my potential clients, customers and maybe even causal followers? Some aspects of my personality are best hidden. Never use profanity on twitter, you never which paying client gets offended.

Have you seen anything else on twitter that seems to tick you off? Have you observed anything that you wished wasn’t there? Do let me know.
