If You Couldn’t Think of a NEW Business Idea, Modify The Old Ones

One of the most prevalent excuses for most people when asked as to why they haven’t started a business on their own is probably their inability to come up with ‘The next big thing’ or a big, fat, juicy idea that can be cashed upon and that can be touted as the next best ‘Google’ or ‘ Microsoft’. It might not happen. Chances are that it may not happen. However, that doesn’t mean that your efforts in thinking about new ideas are to be aborted. All you have to do then is to re-direct your creative juices towards most businesses that are being done now, in your neighbourhood.

You’d see a lot of people setting up all kinds of businesses. The trick here in finding your golden goose is to watch for an opportunity and think about ways to solve people’s problems, becasue that’s why businesses exist. Most people are not sticklers for perfection and hence there are chances that your neighbourhood businesses aren’t run that well. While some businesses just go about everything they are doing in the wrong way with a capital W. To cook up an infallible business plan, you need to observe how and why the local businesses are run the way they are run, make a marketing plan and think about a million ways on how to do the same business better.

Wal-mart just happens to be an offshoot of an over-sized ‘mom-n-pop’ store. Maruti Driving school, in India, happens to be an exemplified, professional, ethical and brand conscious business that encashes the sheer production size of this auto behemoth and utilizes the latest technology, manpower and new cars to bring a difference to the car pool. Airtel, a Bharti teleservices company, came up with some relatively new and unknown concepts in customer service and ensures that the customers are delighted in every possible way.

There are new businesses. Then there are Old Businesses with a whole new attitude.
