We read about it a lot. Don’t we? We read about the fact that we ought to start towards our dreams of being entrepreneurs someday. For some, it would a raging battle for a few years before they take a call and for some it would be a wild plunge even before they finish their education. A few prudent ones would take a part-time business approach or the self-employed approach before the business bug begins to buzz.
Reading about all of this is one thing. Only those who had actually gone through it all can tell you how different and difficult it is to sustain your sanity when you actually make that jump. Complacency goes right out the window and you work harder, there are people barking like dogs trying to discourage you and telling you to get back into that dreaded cubicle and there are some who doubt your competence itself.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, you have your own nagging fear nibbling you away from the insides and reminding you of the fact that you never know what your next month is going to look like. You then have to start looking at your own business functions and worry about paying bills, handling vendors, pleasing all other stakeholders and delighting customers.
However, looking at it the other way around. It is freedom. Pure bliss. No more nasty bosses, no more rush commuting. No more worrying about creative excusitis and no more nit-picking. No more irritating and garrulous colleagues and absolutely no more corporate bitching. You are your own boss and you are your own destiny. You write it. You wipe it.
This life is ours. We live it the way we want it.
